Neil Kruel

Neil Kruel is an American Artist and Educator. His original artwork can be found in private collections both domestically and internationally.

From his earliest beginnings his work has been inspired by life experiences and the ever changing world around him.  Growing up on a wooded generational property, he was attentive to textures, patterns and color.  The juxtaposition of shape, value and hue would influence his work in extraordinary ways. This drama of elements is the resource from which he draws inspiration.  He currently lives in Union, Missouri where he maintains an active studio.

As an educator Kruel taught at East Central College (ECC) for 8 years providing instruction in art history, clay techniques and painting. While at ECC, he piloted the ceramics program that has grown throughout the years and has become integral to the art curriculum. During his teaching years he was active in art shows both as a solo exhibitor and judge. Kruel has also achieved awards when participating in many art shows and competitions throughout the region. He is active in community events and the Kirkwood Performing Art Center. In addition to his artistic accomplishments, Neil is a successful businessman, having founded several companies ranging from advertising agencies, a real estate development corporation and fine art studios.

His art includes mixed-media works and acrylic paintings both on paper and canvas. He is also a skilled ceramist working in stoneware and recycled glass. His imagery draws heavily upon the influence of ancient traditional Japanese philosophy.  This view is centered on appreciating beauty that is transient and incomplete - a concept where the accidental and the serendipitous are embraced. His art is a profound statement that holds the viewer captive by continual movement and a sense of deep introspection.

Kruel holds a Masters of Arts Degree from University of Missouri-Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Colorado.
